The Open Frame

ILR is a special place where people with different aspirations and points of view come together. These creative collisions happen every day on our campuses and in our institutes. And yet, we’re not hemmed in—we are in open dialogue with the world. The open frame brings all of this to life.

The Open Frame

ILR’s wordmark makes use of an open frame that can be thought of as a platform for our school, our institutes, and our partner organizations.

Outside the wordmark, the open frame should live as an expressive element in print, digital, and environmental applications and collateral.

It can be used as a blank to be filled in with text; as an outer rule to highlight images and headlines; as a window that interlocks images; as a button or other interactive element online and in video content; or, finally, as an abstract decorative pattern.

The Open Frame

Feel free to play with it! Change the size, the proportions between width and height, and the length of the open sides. But please observe these basic rules:

  1. The frame must always be open. Think of it as a rectangle with three sides.

  2. The three sides should always meet at right angles.

  3. When changing the size, don’t simply stretch it—make sure that the corners of the lines do not distort, and that the three bars keep to the same width.
